Tennis Elbow: Treatable and Manageable at RNH Hospital

By Dr. Dilip Rathi, Director, RNH Hospital

Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is a common condition that causes pain on the outer part of the elbow, often resulting from repetitive stress or overuse of the forearm muscles. Despite its name, this condition affects not just athletes, but also people who perform regular physical tasks such as lifting, typing, or even household chores.

At RNH Hospital, we understand how disruptive this condition can be — but the good news is, tennis elbow is highly treatable. With the right diagnosis, physiotherapy, and lifestyle guidance, you can be pain-free and regain full function without surgery in most cases.

Common Symptoms:

  • Pain or burning on the outer part of the elbow
  • Weak grip strength
  • Worsened pain during wrist or hand movements
  1. Treatment at RNH Hospital:

Our expert team offers a range of non-surgical treatments:

    • Physiotherapy & Ultrasound Therapy

    • Medications and Icing

    • Bracing or Arm Supports

    • Regenerative options like PRP (if required)

Simple Exercises to Try at Home:

Always consult a specialist before starting these:

  1. Wrist Extensor Stretch
Extend your affected arm, palm down. Gently pull back the hand with the other hand until you feel a stretch. Hold for 20-30 seconds.
  2. Wrist Curls (with light weight)
Hold a light dumbbell with your palm facing up. Slowly curl your wrist upward, then back down.
  3. Fist Clench
Place a rolled towel under your arm and squeeze a soft ball or towel in your hand for 5 seconds. Repeat 10–15 times.

At RNH Hospital, you are in the hands of experts who combine care, experience, and the latest orthopedic advances. Tennis elbow is not a challenge when managed early — and we are here to help you get back to doing what you love, pain-free.
